Sound Types

Diegetic: A natural sound that occurs on or off screen, e.g. seagulls.

Non Diegetic: A sound that unnaturally occurs, e.g. mood music, narrator, sound effects.

Synchronous: When a sound occurs from what is on screen, e.g. a dog barking whilst you see the dog.

Asynchronous: When a sound occurs off screen, e.g. a dog barking and you dont see the dog.
